Remember importance of living with a thankful heart (December 2018)

Dear Church Family,

I hope that each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

As most of you know, Martha and I had a wonderful opportunity to spend Thanksgiving in Texas, visiting our Daughter Karen and family. We are glad to be back home, and thankful to be a part of such a loving and caring church family. As I speak with other pastors, I am constantly reminded of how blessed I am to call Southside my home.

The other day I found an article titled, “The Art of Thanksgiving” to which I have modified and added some scripture references. It reminds us all of the importance of living with a heart of thanksgiving throughout the year.

The Art of Thanksgiving
The art of thanksgiving is thanksliving. It is gratitude in action.

It is thanking God for the gift of life and eternal life by living it triumphantly.

Psalms 118:24 “This is the Day that the lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

It is thanking God for your talents and abilities by accepting them as obligations to be invested for the common good.

It is thanking God for all that others have done for you by doing good things for others.

John 13:35NIV “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” It is thanking God for happiness by striving to make others happy.

Luke 6:31NIV “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

It is thanking God for beauty by helping to make the world more beautiful.

It is thanking God for inspiration by trying to be an inspiration to others.

It is thanking God for health and strength by the care and reverence you show your body.

“1 Corinthians 6:19NIV “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”

It is thanking God for the creative ideas that enrich life by adding your own creative contributions to mankind. James 1:17 NIV “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

It is thanking God for each new day by living it to the fullest.

It is thanking God by giving our hands, arms, legs and voice to your thankful Spirit.

Psalms 145:3 NIV “Great is the Lord and most worthy of Praise His greatness no one can fathom.”

May the Lord fill us with gratitude and thanksgiving as we celebrate Christmas and the New Year!
